Here’s a glimpse of what each phase looks like:
⭐ Phase 1: Getting Started
Your child knows a few letters but isn’t yet sounding out words.
🟢 What to focus on: rhyming, syllables, beginning sounds, and exposure to print.
⭐ Phase 2: Starting to Sound It Out
They’re beginning to blend and segment words, but still need support.
🟢 What to focus on: letter-sound mapping, sound boxes, blending and decoding.
⭐ Phase 3: Starting to Read
They’re reading CVC words and short texts, but fluency is shaky.
🟢 What to focus on: word chains, fluency grids, and building decoding confidence.
⭐ Phase 4: Reading with Confidence
They read independently and are ready for bigger words and deeper comprehension.
🟢 What to focus on: syllable division, spelling rules, morphemes, and writing.
You Don’t Need to Know Everything
